Charleston in B&W

"Shadow Swirls at the Old Exchange" ~ Historic downtown Charleston in South Carolina has one of the highest concentrations of finely crafted iron fences and gates in the world. Some of my favorite wrought ironwork in Charleston is the balusters and railing at the Old Exchange Building (c. 1771). The location on East Bay Street at the end of the east-west corridor of Broad Street sets up this ironwork for some remarkable shadows such as these. Cast against the texture of masonry flooring at the entrance to the Old Exchange, these shadows make for one of my personal favorite compositions featuring ironwork. "St. Philips Shadows" ~ B&W composition of shadows on the steps of St. Philips Episcopal Church created by the setting sun and a wrought iron gate at the church in historic Charleston, South Carolina. Established in 1680, St. Philip's is the oldest Anglican congregation south of Virginia.
