"Kilkenny Castle on the River Nore" ~ Kilkenny Castle dates back to 1213 when it was built on the River Nore for the 4th Earl of Pembroke. The castle was later owned by the Butlers of Ormonde for over six centuries until abandoning it during the 1930’s depression. The Butlers were Earls, Marquesses and Dukes. The 6th Marquess and 24th Earl of Ormonde eventually sold the castle to the government in the 1960s for the token amount £50 so that it could be restored and opened to visitors.
"West Tower of Kilkenny Castle” ~ The west tower of Kilkenny Castle, with the south tower shown beyond. The south tower is known as the Parade Tower and is the largest of three original towers, all of which date back to 1213. The gatehouse was fit into the curtain wall between these two towers in the 17th century.

"Round Tower of Glendalough" ~ This well preserved Irish round tower is the most prominent feature of St. Kevin's ancient Monastic City in Ireland's Wicklow Mountains. The tower stands about 110' high (33m) and was built about a thousand years ago. It was likely used as a bell tower and as refuge from attackers.
